
Ormond was born in Epsom, Surrey, the daughter of Josephine an engineer and John Ormond, a stockbroker. She is the fifth of five children born to her parents. Her first performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. She went on to Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a single year of art school, she was went to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in the year 1988. Ormond first made an appearance on British television in the 1989 serial Traffik The story revolves around the illicit heroin trade from the Far East into the streets of Europe. Ormond was the heroin addicted daughter of the main character who was a Home Office minister who was involved in fighting heroin importation. The character's first appearance earned him rave reviews.
