Taylor Russell McKenzie was born on July 18, 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. [1][2(two) Russell, who was born to the black father and white mother, is biracial and grew up primarily with her mother's side of the family. She recalled that growing up she was viewed as unwelcome by her peers due to the complexion of her skin. Their parents were struggling with their finances and were always moving, relocating their lives 16 times in order to pursue her father's job. Russell admitted that, despite the hardships, there was always the opportunity to reinventthemselves, to develop something new. Russell's parents faced financial hardship and she was always on the move. When she turned 18, she took her first acting class, and eventually found her niche. She saved her money from work to purchase a car and drove off to Los Angeles to audition. When the money ran out she would work until she had enough income to audition again. The process continued for four consecutive years, until she was finally offered her first TV role on television.
