Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the popular media. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. Additionally, she works to raise awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social thought at York University, is a popular public speakers. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Inquiring about gender and feminism since an early age she launched her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. She had a plan to start a web-based series on gender representation in video games. However, she found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. But the assault did not deter her instead it was a boost to her determination to be a feminist media critic. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media critic. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture gender representations.
